Fifth Test between India and England: Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes India’s highest scorer in a single series against England

<p>With his blow at Dharamshala on Day 1 of the fifth and final Test of the series between the sides, Team India’s youthful opening sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, achieved yet another milestone in his developing career as he surpassed some of the game’s greatest players to score the most runs in an India Test series against England.</p>

<p>In the current series against England, Jaiswal’s half-century at the HPCA Ground on Thursday helped him surpass 700 runs and pass some very notable figures in Indian cricket.</p>
<p>The left-hander increased his series total against England to 712 runs with a 57-run contribution to India’s cause.</p>
<p>Up until Jaiswal’s performance at the scenic stadium in Himachal Pradesh, former Indian captain and star batsman Virat Kohli held the mantle in the parameter. The 35-year-old had scored 655 runs during the home series against the English back in 2016.</p>
<p>Third on the list is the legendary Rahul Dravid’s 602 runs scored against the English in a foreign country in 2002. Kohli’s 593 runs in the home series against the visiting English in 2018 come next.</p>
<p>The fifth-highest run total by an Indian batter is 586, achieved by Vijay Manjrekar in the 1961–1962 series against England in India. This number surpasses the legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s 542 runs scored on the road back in the 1979 season.</p>
<p>In the last Test of the trip, England elected to bat first after winning the toss. However, they were bowled out for 218 runs due to the skill of the Indian spin unit, which took all 10 wickets on the first day of play.</p>
<p>Leading from the front, left-arm leggie Kuldeep Yadav claimed five wickets, including the valuable removal of Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, and captain Ben Stokes.</p>
<p>Famous all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja took out experienced batsman Joe Root for 26 runs, adding a wicket in the process.</p>
<p>Before the Indian hitters took over, Ravichandran Ashwin, who was playing in his 100th Test match, wrapped off the English first innings by dismissing Tom Hartley, Mark Wood, Ben Foakes, and James Anderson.</p>
